Goodbye weekends! Hello real world!

So I have been working my ass off for the past few days. But I still like what I am doing very much,I just never imagined that one could paint for 9 hours. Today I worked 9 to 7 and boy was it a long day. We are in crunch time right because load in is happening on Monday. Its weird going from a schedule when you have weekends off to working weekends now. I am starting to get to know all the interns now and they seem like a very fun group to hang out with. Monday we are going to have a cheesy movie marathon to celebrate our one day off Hurray! Oh and get this I may be introducing them to the horror movie Sleep Away Camp! which I think will be pretty amazing. I had brought a lot of summer close with me but so far the only clothes that I have been wearing are my paint clothes. Hmmmm maybe I brought to many clothes with me...oh whatever. Well I need to wash all the paint of me!

My First Day

I’m going to have to make this quick because I am way tired and today was my first day. I went to my internship at 8am this morning which I guess in reality that is not to bad then I got off a 6pm. The first of possibly many 9 hour days. Although I thought that the time went by very fast, but I was ensured that it only felt that way because it was my first day. Its weird coming into something that has already started. I arrived about a month later than the rest because of graduation so its strange because everyone has already gotten to know one another and they have inside jokes that I just don’t get (I hate when that happens) But putting all aside I think that I will get along with then just fine and can’t wait to hang with them and get to know them all better.
There is a lot of painting that needs to get done in the next few days because a show is about to go up. Earnest is opening this weekend, I ended up missing working on that show completely because I arrived later…oh darn…because we all know how much I love that show.
All in all my first day went pretty well and I might even go watch a wrestling match with some of the other interns on Friday. I am totally against wrestling but this one is being done Nacho Lebre style so I think it should be fun. And possibly on Monday I am going to go to Pismo Beach when they have Volley Ball Mondays or I am just going to lay in the sun. Whatever can get me outside.

So I have made it to California after two day of driving. My Dad and I drove from 4:50 am (I say 4:50am because my Dad wanted to be in the car by 5am so I was ten mins. Early) we stopped driving at 8pm on the first day and then drove the next day for about four hours and got to Santa Maria. First we checked out the theater and it was a mind blow for me.
It’s actually great to be at a place that offers all of the shops right in arms reach. Considering I was used to walking down a hill a few blocks for the scene shop and then walking the long walk back up the hill for class. Today I got a tour of the theatre and all the works spaces such as the paint room (where I will be working), lights, sound, design, costume, props, crafts, scene shop, and all backstage areas.
Tomorrow will be my long day…okay this whole week will be long in theory. I start at 8am and work until 6pm and I get Monday off. The schedule will change depending on tech and load inns but I think I usually work 8am to 6pm and get a majority of the weekends off. Right now in the paint section it appears as though I am the only one out of state which is going to be strange.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention I arrived at the house where I am living for the three months. I am living with a nice woman named Phyllis who is in her late sixties. The room I have I huge with my own bathroom and a closet which is about the size of my old bedroom. I even have a sitting room weird huh (I am not sure if I can even fill this place up). There is also a dog named Riley I think he likes me because when ever I turn around he is there (which is okay because I love dogs). This living situation is going to be a little different then what I am used to, but I think it will work out.
I miss Bellingham and home a lot already but I am still excited to meet people and get started in what I hope to be the beginnings of a career.
